Pursue solar energy

The opinion page of The Bulletin is frequently peppered with attacks on the likes of socialist leaning liberals and fanatical environmentalists. They appear to be responsible for all that ails us. For sure they are the reason for our economic woes. One wonders if the authors of such opinions have ever met a liberal, or an environmentalist, let alone a socialist. For the most part, these are decent folks, who may share different world views, which surely doesn’t make them evil.

That great American inventor, Thomas Edison (1847-1931), exclaimed “We are like tenant farmers chopping down the fence around our house for fuel when we should be using nature’s inexhaustible sources of energy — sun, wind and tide. I’d put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don’t have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that.”

As we approach Earth Day 2013, perhaps we could challenge ourselves to pursue this goal using American ingenuity, our natural resources and our hard-working people.
