- Janice Katherine Wright
Nov. 9, 1919 – April 14, 2013
Janice Katherine Wright, 93, died April 14, 2013 in Redmond, Ore. She was born November 9, 1919, in Salinas, Calif. to James Menefee Lemon and Katherine Lemon. She had one brother, James Peter Lemon, who passed away in 1944. Jan married Arthur Hardwick Wright September 7, 1947 in Salinas, Calif. They continued to live in Salinas where all of their six children were born, moving to Redmond, Ore. in 1961, and staying until their retirement in 1980. Upon retiring, they moved to Denman Island, B.C., Canada, where Art helped run the family farm, and Jan pursued her art. In 2000, they returned to Redmond.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur Hardwick Wright; six children, Dale Allen Wright, Bruce Arthur Wright, Kirk William Wright, Lance Gordon Wright, Robin Lee Drawhorn, and Leslie Ann Clark; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Jan’s family members describe her as a gentle soul who always had a smile and a laugh for everyone, and was always looking on the bright side of life. She was a homemaker and was passionate about art and music. She started playing the violin as a child and continued throughout junior high and high school. Later on, she played in the Central Oregon Community College Symphony. She enthusiastically sang in the church choir, and was always active in churches in the various communities where she lived, most recently the Community Presbyterian Church in Redmond. When she wasn’t playing music, she could be found pursuing her artwork – watercolor and pen and ink paintings. She was also a seamstress, and sewed many of her children’s clothes as well as her own. Many an hour was spent with a pair of knitting needles. She had an adventurous spirit and was always willing to get in on the fun. Her day was not complete unless she had taken a spin on her bicycle. Even in the weeks before her death, she could be seen on her three-wheel recumbent bike, touring the neighborhood.
A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 3, at the Community Presbyterian Church in Redmond, officiated by Pastor Rob Anderson, with a reception to follow. Memorial gifts can be made to the Community Presbyterian Church. Please sign our online guestbook
