A 20-year-old Prineville man is jailed in Crook County this morning after a Wednesday night traffic stop alerted police to a kidnapping and stolen firearms, according to Oregon State Police.

Skyler Suchodolski was held for arraignment on charges of first-degree robbery, kidnap, theft and burglary; unauthorized use of a motor vehicle; coercion; second-degree assault; and menacing. His bail was set at $215,000, according to OSP.

Police say they found Leo Novak, 73, tied to a kitchen chair in his Prineville home, his hands bound so tight that if he’d been left much longer he may have lost them to amputation.

According to OSP:

Trooper Josh Nagle stopped a 2008 Jeep Cherokee on state Highway 126 near the U.S. Highway 97 intersection, Redmond, without its headlights on around 9:40 p.m. Nagle, learning the vehicle was borrowed and seeing firearms inside, discovered a handgun beneath the front seat. He handcuffed Suchodolski and through Crook County dispatch asked for a welfare check on Novak, the Jeep’s registered owner. Prineville Police officer Jordan Zamora and Crook County sheriff’s deputy Jeremy Neely found Novak, his hands swollen and bleeding, tied to the chair. He was treated at the scene by Crook County Fire and Rescue and then at Pioneer Memorial Hospital. His condition this morning was not immediately available.

“The attending ER physician told officers if Novak hadn’t been discovered then, his hands most likely would have to be amputated if the ligatures were left on much longer,” an OSP news released stated this morning.
