Laura Gibson plays along the Metolius

Well here is a nice surprise that’s off the beaten path: The excellent Portland-based singer-songwriter Laura Gibson is playing what should be a magical show at House on Metolius north of Camp Sherman.
Gibson is one of the Rose City’s bubbling-under talents, not quite a superstar but renowned enough to tour internationally and earn rave reviews for her records, such as last year’s “La Grande,” which Mojo, a British music magazine, called “curiously beautiful.”
Gibson’s music is mostly gentle, well-crafted folk with an eye toward the skies and a gauzy, rustic feel. “La Grande” picks up the pace a bit, featuring more instruments than usual and guests from Calexico, the Dodos and the Decemberists.
Gibson spent February in residence at Caldera near Sisters, working on songs, teaching songwriting to middle school and high school students and remembering how to be still. On Saturday, she returns to the region, hopefully to showcase some of the fruits of that effort.
