Where in the world is director Sandy Silver?

Well, right now she’s in Central Oregon, but Sandy Silver, who helmed many a community theater production over the past decade in Bend, recently took her directorial talents south. Really far south (and west).

Silver recently returned to Central Oregon after spending three months in New Zealand. Silver directed two shows for The Ugly Shakespeare Co., a theater company that travels to schools around New Zealand presenting Shakespeare in a kid-friendly manner.

After rehearsing two shows, “King Lear” and “Macbeth,” and seeing them off on five-month tours, “I left to begin teaching master classes throughout New Zealand, which included one at the Fortune Theatre in Dunedin, and one at the University of Waikato in Hamilton. I have fallen in love with New Zealand and have decided to spend a couple of years there directing and teaching,” Silver told The Bulletin by email. “How lucky can a lady get!?”

Silver is now in the process of applying for an arts working visa and hopes to be on her way in January. Break a leg — in the theater sense — Sandy.
