Dr. Artyce Lee Hawman, died suddenly on August 6, 2013, at age 83, in Portland, Oregon, of a cerebral hemorrhage.

She was born July 14, 1930, in Portland, the daughter of William Arthur Hawman and Georgia Noble Hawman, both deceased.

She was also preceded in death by her older sister, Joyce Ann Rawlings, of Beaverton. She is survived by her brothers, Phillip Arthur Hawman of Hermiston and Dr. Eric Grant Hawman of Schaumburg, Illinois.

Artyce grew up in the Willamette Valley first near Monmouth, and later McMinnville. She attended Amity Union High School in Amity, Oregon, where she was very active in sports. She earned both bachelors and masters degrees in biology from the University of Oregon, in Eugene in 1953 and 1955.

After working at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene, as a medical technician, she entered the University of Oregon Medical School in Portland, where she received her MD in 1963. She completed an internship and residency program at Children’s Hospital in San Francisco, specializing in anesthesiology. Her medical practice led her first to Alexian Brothers Hospital, in San Jose, and later to Los Gatos Community Hospital, where she worked until her retirement in 1989.

Artyce had a deep love of nature. She enjoyed the seascape and had a home near the shore for many years in Santa Cruz, California. After moving to Redmond in 1989, she enjoyed many social activities with a wide circle of friends.

She lived in a home with a wonderful view of the Cascades. She was an avid golfer, and a member of the Juniper Golf Club of Redmond for many years. Besides golf, her hobbies included amateur astronomy, geology, and photography. Since 2000, she was a passionate fan, supporter and assistant to the well-known local singer/songwriter Lindy Gravelle.

Artyce contributed to many charities, and in leaving us, she bequeaths the major portion of her estate to Hospice of Redmond.
