Q: I know Jim Poston has won Emmys as Sheldon on “The Big Bang Theory.” Have any of the others in the ensemble ever been nominated?

— Sharron Lindsey, Belleville, Ill.

A: Well, for starters, Jim’s last name actually is Parsons. He’s been nominated for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series every year since 2009, including this one, and won in 2010 and 2011. Johnny Galecki, the show’s “Leonard,” was nominated in 2011, and Mayim Bialik is in the running this year — her second time — in a supporting actress capacity. In both 2009 and 2010, Christine Baranski was nominated as a guest actress for playing Leonard’s mother, and Bob Newhart is a nominee this year for his recent guest appearance.

Q: I saw the movie “Ted” recently, and I was wondering how they did the scene where Ted seems to be on “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson.

— Sue Draper, Stuart, Fla.

A: Very clever technology permitted that. Given where the heads of Carson and Ed McMahon were directed, they had to have been looking at someone roughly the height of teddy bear Ted … and in the original, unaltered clip, that person was child star Emmanuel Lewis (“Webster”). His height, and what he said to the then-hosts of the NBC late-night staple, enabled director Seth MacFarlane to insert Ted over Lewis and make it appear that conversation with Ted actually had happened.

Q: I’ve read that Tracy Pollan is going to be on “The Michael J. Fox Show.” Is that true?

— Carol Pike, Glen Burnie, Md.

A: Yes, but only as a guest. The title star’s wife already has filmed an episode of his new NBC comedy series, which begins its run Sept. 26, so it likely will air early in the show’s run. Fox already has a “wife” on the show, played by Betsy Brandt (“Breaking Bad”), so Pollan will have a different role.

Q: NBC announced its plans for a new version of “The Sound of Music” with Carrie Underwood some time ago. When is it supposed to be on?

— Scott Jeffries, Bend

A: From the outset, the three-hour event had been slated for the end-of-year holidays, and the telecast date is set for Dec. 5. That will help maintain Underwood’s presence on the network for the new television season, since she’s also the new performer of the Sunday Night Football theme.

Q: When will the final season of “The Office” be out on DVD?

— James Green, Buffalo, N.Y.

A: Sept. 3, and it also will be available on Blu-ray that day. As with earlier home video releases of the series, deleted scenes and outtakes will be among the special features.

Q: I understand that Cory Monteith finished two movies before his death. When will those be out?

— Jill Paris, Columbus, Ohio

A: The native Canadian’s drama “All the Wrong Reasons” will be featured at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival, then get a general release. He also had completed the crime drama “McCanick,” and no release date for that film had been set as of this writing.

Q: Who was the first of the villains to appear on the 1960s “Batman” series?

— John Porter, Milwaukee

A: It was the Riddler, played by Frank Gorshin … and Jill St. John appeared as his moll, appropriately named Molly. John Astin would play the Riddler in two episodes of the show, but Gorshin eventually returned.

Q: How many actress daughters does Meryl Streep have?

— Steve Wallace, Reading, Pa.

A: Two … and she also has a son, Henry Gummer, who’s in the business as both an actor and a musician. The daughters who are actresses are Mamie Gummer (“Emily Owens, M.D.”) and Grace Gummer (“The Newsroom”). Third daughter Louisa is not in the entertainment field.

Q: How long were reporters stationed outside the hospital where the royal baby was born recently?

— Erin Stone, Daytona Beach, Fla.

A: Though it varied by the network, each of the American networks generally had correspondents there for a couple of weeks as the due date approached. In some cases, as with ABC, multiple reporters did duty at different times; weekend “Good Morning America” co-anchor Bianna Golodryga was there for a while, then came back to the U.S. and was replaced in England by Amy Robach.
