CORVALLIS — Bend High earned its first boys soccer victory of the season Saturday, topping Corvallis 2-1.
Scott Bracci converted a penalty kick in the eighth minute to put the Lava Bears (1-2-1) ahead 1-0 and Zach Hite punched in a goal in the 22nd minute to make the score 2-0. The Spartans recorded a goal just before halftime, but Bend held on and blanked Corvallis in the second half to win the nonconference contest.
“We’re learning and progressing,” said Lava Bear coach Nils Eriksson. “We played with a little more intensity this time out.”

BOYS SOCCER
Mountain View 3, Crescent Valley 3: CORVALLIS — Zach Emerson posted a hat trick and Mario Torres recorded three assists as the Cougars registered their third draw in four games this season. Emerson scored in the 15th, 60th and 75th minutes for Mountain View (0-1-3).
Summit 1, Woodburn 1: WOODBURN — Woodburn scored in the 15th minute with a free kick, but the Storm’s Alex Bowlin came back with a shot in the 22nd minute that deflected off a Woodburn defender to even the score at 1-1 heading into the half. In the last 10 seconds, Bowlin had a breakaway. Woodburn’s goalkeeper tripped him, but Summit’s Luca Chiletti came from behind and knocked home a goal. However, Kidder said the referee called the goal back and had the Storm (1-1-2) take a free kick from 24 yards out, but the shot was errant, forcing the draw.
GIRLS SOCCER
Sisters 3, Henley 2: KLAMATH FALLS — Natalie Ambrose finished with a goal and an assist, and Liz Stewart logged the game-winning goal in the 78th minute to propel Sisters to a nonconference win. With two minutes to go, Ambrose dribbled down the sideline and made “a beautiful cut” to the goal, according to Sisters coach Audrey Tehan. The senior then dropped a pass to Stewart, who finished the play to give the Outlaws the win. Cassandra Arruda also scored for Sisters (3-0), and Danielle Rudinsky and Haley Carlson were each credited with an assist. The Outlaws begin Sky-Em League play on Thursday when they host Elmira.
Stayton 7, Crook County 1: PRINEVILLE — The Cowgirls were missing two of their starting defenders in the first half because of suspensions and struggled to defend against Stayton’s offensive attack, falling behind 6-0 by the end of the first half. Emily Kreachbaum was credited with Crook County’s only goal. Megan Highsmith played in goal in the first half but had to leave due to an injury, and Nataly Lopez took over. The pair had 15 saves between them. “It would be nice to have everyone together,” Cowgirls coach Richard Abrams said. “But we played well.”
Tillamook 2, Madras 0: TILLAMOOK — The White Buffaloes suffered their first loss of the season after allowing two first-half goals to the Cheesemakers. Madras (0-1-3) open Tri-Valley Conference play on Thursday, when the Buffs entertain Estacada.

VOLLEYBALL
Summit storms to title: EUGENE — After what Storm coach Jill Waskom described as a “rocky start,” with Summit going 3-3 in pool play, the Storm rebounded and cruised through the championship bracket to win the South Eugene Tournament at South Eugene High School. Summit defeated Willamette 25-21, 25-22 in the first round before dispatching Corvallis 26-24, 25-23. The Storm then defeated Class 6A West Salem 25-19, 25-23 to take the title for the sixth straight year, according to Waskom. Emma Dahl, Jordan Waskom and Malia Moreland stood out in the eyes of the Summit coach, providing the Storm with energy they needed to prevail at the 12-team tournament.
Ravens claim tourney crown: AURORA — After putting together a 5-1 record in pool play, Ridgeview earned a spot in the championship bracket of the North Marion Tournament at North Marion High School. The Ravens then put away Stayton (25-16, 25-12) and Banks (25-17, 25-17) to take the tournament championship. “We just had a fabulous team day,” Ravens coach Debi Dewey said. “Everybody was firing on all cylinders all day long.” Statistics were not available, but Dewey commended the play of Brianna Yeakey — who the Ridgeview coach said stepped up both offensively and defensively — as well as the hitting of Katrina Johnson. Finishing only behind North Marion in its pool, La Pine earned a spot in the championship bracket as well, but the Hawks fell to Banks in the first round in two games.
Culver falls in championship: REEDSPORT — Culver beat Bonanza in the first match of a four-team tournament 25-8, 25-16, earning a matchup against Reedsport. After losing its first set, Culver took the next two to win 20-25, 25-21, 15-10. In the championship match, Culver played Days Creek, whom the Bulldogs beat last year in the Class 2A state championship, but Culver fell in three games 25-22, 24-26, 15-13. “Today was (Days Creek’s) day, and we hope that our day is in November,” Culver coach Randi Viggiano said, referring to the state title match. Shealene Little had 32 kills, nine aces and 23 digs for Culver, Gabrielle Alley had 26 kills, 10 aces and 17 digs, and Kaylee Aldrich had five aces.
