Townshend’s Bend Teahouse

Published 2:38 pm Thursday, December 19, 2013

You won’t find coffee at Townshend’s. Instead, you can leaf through a 16-page catalog of teas, or choose from among 24 infusions and 84 medicinal teas (here called “apothecary teas”).

Owner Matt Thomas opened the shop in January 2008, about a year and a half after the original Townshend’s in Portland. He had conceived the idea of a campus-style tea shop with a coffeehouse flavor as a University of Oregon student in 2002. Today, the clientele remains young, ranging from teen agers to parents with young children. They sit in cozy chairs and at low tables, listening to soothing music and viewing the work of local artists on the walls.
