COCC rock song to benefit school

A group of Central Oregon Community College (COCC) employees have written an original Christmas song, ”Christmas RAWK!” with all music download profits benefiting the COCC Foundation.

F’n’A, which stands for “Faculty and Administrators,” has released the song with an accompanying video on YouTube. The video was filmed entirely on COCC’s Bend campus and portrays a Christmas dance party featuring dozens of college employees, including a cameo appearance by James Middleton, president of COCC.

“Christmas RAWK!” and other F’n’A tunes can be downloaded at https://fnacocc.bandcamp.com . All profits from music downloads go directly to the COCC Foundation, which provides financial assistance to COCC students through scholarships.

F’n’A members include Aimee Metcalf, assistant director of college relations; Tom Barry, professor of sociology; Gordon Price, director of student life; Josh Evans, professor of Spanish; Kevin Multop, director of financial aid and Sean Rule, professor of math.

Raffle supports shoes for kids

Central Oregon Running Klub is holding a raffle through Jan. 1 to raise money for a KEDS for KIDS, a “no feet left behind” program to purchase gym shoes for Deschutes County elementary school children.

A $10 ticket buys a chance to win a prize package that includes a $100 Footzone gift certificate, one entry into the 2014 Dirty Half half-marathon, one entry into a 2014 SuperFit Production race, a technical shirt, henna body art and a six-pack of energy bars. The winning ticket will be chosen at CORK’s New Year’s Day Run on Jan. 1, and the individual need not be present to win. For more information, to help or purchase a ticket, contact Tracy Miller at 541-310-0701 or corkruns@hotmail.com.

Register now for community class

The registration period for Central Oregon Community College’s Winter 2014 community learning classes is now open and will run until the classes are full or start later this winter.

Depending on the course, these classes — which cover a number of topics including art, retirement planning, snowshoeing and becoming a healthcare information technology technician — can be found at the college’s main campus in Bend or at its satellite classrooms in La Pine, Madras, Prineville, Redmond and Sisters.

People can visit the program’s website at www.cocc.edu/community-learning/ or call 541-383-7270 to learn more about what classes are being offered this winter and how they can register for them. Registration is required for all courses in advance.
