Military Notes

Army Private Damion Hardiek has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga. He is a 2012 graduate of the Oregon Youth Challenge Program in Bend. He is the brother of Cameron Hardiek, of Page, Ariz.

TEEN Feats

Tim Gorman has been named December’s High Desert Hero by The Center Foundation of Bend. Gorman, a senior at Mountain View High School, has a 4.43 GPA. He participates in water polo, basketball, swim team, Honor Society and the St. Francis Youth Group. He also plays piano, lifeguards and volunteers as a peer tutor and teaches physics to elementary students.

Chloee Sazama has been named January’s High Desert Hero by The Center Foundation of Bend. Sazama, a senior at La Pine High School, has a 3.84 GPA. She is a four-sport athlete, which includes varsity soccer, varsity basketball, cross country and track and field. She is a member of student council, The Center Foundation student advisory council, FBLA, FCA, National Honor Society and student leadership. She also does volunteer work, which includes pulling weeds at a local day care, campus cleanup and helping manage middle school basketball tournaments and track meets.
