Lava Bears upend Storm

Post Jacob Parsons led a balanced scoring attack for Bend High with 15 points, and the Lava Bears outscored Summit in all four quarters Friday night en route to a 63-47 boys basketball victory in their Class 5A Intermountain Conference opener at Bend High.

Parsons scored nine points in the second half as the Lava Bears (1-0 IMC, 6-5 overall) pulled away from a 28-25 halftime advantage.

Jaylin Robinson scored 11 points and Connor Scott and Steffan Kearlsey scored 10 apiece to give Bend four players in double figures. Scott also grabbed a team-high five rebounds for the Bears, who won their third in a row.

For the Storm (1-1, 7-5), Chris Reeves hit three 3-pointers as part of his team-leading 11 points. Nick Moyer added 10 points for Summit, which had won its previous four games.

Boys Basketball

Mountain View 80, Ridgeview 47: Ten scorers guided the host Cougars to the Intermountain Hybrid victory, Mountain View’s sixth straight win overall. Davis Holly paced the Cougars (8-2) with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting, Grant Lannin added 16 points and eight rebounds, and Cade Cattell chipped in with 14 points. For Ridgeview (5-7), Garrett Albrecht led the way with nine points and six boards, while Jack Bowman, Justin Alvarez and George Mendazona each scored seven points.

Cascade 45, Sisters 38: TURNER — The Outlaws were tied with the Cougars 21-21 at the end of the first half, but Cascade outscored Sisters 17-8 in the third quarter to pick up the Class 4A nonconference win. “We made a run in the first half,” Sisters coach Rand Runco said, “but blew a lot of opportunities. We played well though.” Hayden Martinez led the Outlaws (2-11) with 18 points.

Banks 70, Madras 67: BANKS — The White Buffaloes built a 67-56 lead in the fourth quarter, but Banks closed the game on a 14-0 run to seal the Class 4A nonconference win. Jered Pichette led Madras (7-7) with 16 points, Reshaun Holliday contributed 11, and the Buffs sank 10 3-pointers. Bryce Rehwinkel, Devon Wolfe and Brent Sullivan each posted eight points, and Sullivan added 12 rebounds.

Sutherlin 52, La Pine 50: SUTHERLIN — La Pine held a 10-point lead over the Bulldogs heading into the fourth quarter in a Class 4A nonconference game, but Sutherlin’s Noah Caillier recorded 14 of the Bulldogs’ 24 points in the final period, including a buzzer-beating jumper to break a 50-all tie. “I’m pleased with the effort and play,” Hawks coach Kent Wieber said. “But it came down to who had the ball last.” Zack Smith led La Pine (8-6) with 25 points and 13 rebounds, and Sam Wieber finished with 15 points and four assists.

East Linn Christian 62, Culver 28: LEBANON — The Bulldogs dropped their second straight Class 2A Tri-River Conference contest, falling to 1-6 in league play and 2-12 overall.

Gilchrist 76, Hosanna Christian 60: KLAMATH FALLS — With the Class 1A Mountain Valley League win, the Grizzlies’ fourth straight overall, Gilchrist improved to 3-0 in conference action and 10-4 overall.

Sherman 54, Central Christian 39: REDMOND — The host Tigers had a big fourth quarter, outscoring the Huskies from Moro 20-8. But that was not enough to offset the early dominance of Sherman, which led 37-13 at halftime of the Class 1A Big Sky League game. Caleb Reynolds had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Central Christian (0-5 BSL, 1-8 overall), and Caleb Stewart had 10 points and 14 boards. Sherman’s first-half blitz was led by Max Martin, who finished with six 3-pointers and a game-high 23 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bend 60, Summit 36: The Lava Bears opened up Class 5A Intermountain Conference play in a big way, dominating host Summit for the conference win. Bend (1-0 IMC, 8-4 overall) led 34-21 after the first half, a lead that was extended in the third to 51-29. The Lava Bears were led by Brydie Burnham’s game-high 24 points as well as Marissa Hayes’ 12 points. Raja Char totaled 11 points for the Storm (1-1, 9-4), and Sarah Reeves finished with eight points.

Crook County 45, Redmond 32: PRINEVILLE — The Cowgirls outscored the Panthers 22-10 in the second half to win the Intermountain Hybrid contest. Michaeline Malott led Crook County with 13 points and four assists, and Kimmer Severance added 12 points and 11 rebounds as the Cowgirls improved to 6-7 overall. Sophia Hamilton made four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points to lead Redmond (0-11).

Madras 49, Banks 40: MADRAS — Behind Mariah Stacona’s 13 points, six steals and four assists, the White Buffaloes secured their fifth win in six games with the Class 4A nonconference victory. Leah Suppah finished with 10 points, while Cirelle Frank hauled in nine rebounds to go along with two points.

Cascade 52, Sisters 37: TURNER — Savannah Spear posted 13 points and Jacobie Petterson added 11, but the visiting Outlaws suffered their fourth loss in five games in a Class 4A nonconference matchup. Sisters fell to 4-8 on the season.

Sutherlin 66, La Pine 24: SUTHERLIN — La Pine threatened unbeaten Sutherlin in the first quarter, but the host Bulldogs (13-0) pulled away by halftime and rolled to the Class 4A nonleague decision. Holli Glenn, who hit two 3-pointers, and Katie Mickel scored eight points apiece to lead the Hawks (7-7), who play their Sky-Em League opener Tuesday night at Sisters.

Trinity Lutheran 44, Prospect 36: PROSPECT — The visiting Saints won for the sixth time in seven games, riding Emily Eidler’s 18 points to the Class 1A Mountain Valley League win. Eidler added a team-best seven rebounds and four blocked shots, and her two 3-pointers fueled a third-quarter surge for the winners. Katie Murphy scored 12 points and had six rebounds, three assists and three blocks for Trinity Lutheran (3-1 MVL, 8-5 overall).

Culver 26, East Linn Christian 24: LEBANON — The Bulldogs rebounded from a one-point first quarter to take a 12-10 lead into the half of their Class 2A Tri-River Conference contest. But Culver was outscored 24-14 in the second half to drop the Bulldogs to 2-5 in league play and 5-10 overall. Andrea Retano posted eight points to lead Culver, while Alysha Fritz and Raeanne Slaght chipped in with seven points apiece.

Hosanna Christian 44, Gilchrist 24: KLAMATH FALLS — The visiting Grizzlies had no answer for the Lions’ Raelynn Murray, who hit five 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 22 points in the Class 1A Mountain Valley League contest. Sierra Shuey paced Gilchrist (0-3 MVL, 3-8 overall) with 11 points. Jasmine Khronke added six points for the Grizzlies, and Sydney Longbotham had six rebounds and three steals to go with her four points.

Sherman 41, Central Christian 16: REDMOND — Hampered by injury and plagued by early foul trouble, the host Tigers struggled in their Class 1A Big Sky League matchup with the Huskies from Moro. Kaylin McAfee scored seven points and had eight rebounds for Central Christian (2-3 BSL, 5-5 overall), and Kelsey Stealey had 12 rebounds and four points.
