On January 9, 2014, the world lost an incredible man, Will Fisher. He was a World War II veteran, proud to have served his country in the 94th Infantry Division under General Patton. Will served in the military for 24 years. He also served in Vietnam as a foreign aid officer for the State Department of the United States. Later he moved to Belleville, Illinois, where he was executive director of the St. Clair County Mental Health Board. He and his wife, Gerda moved to Bend in 1995. Will was active in many veterans activities. He loved his family, his tax clients, his country and his dog, Suzie. He had a sense of humor like no other, and at 91 years of age, he would often say, “I still have all my hair and all my teeth!” We will miss you, Dad, along with all your wonderful little sayings and ability to make us laugh!
Will was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn. He is survived by his wife, Gerda; his children, Madeline (Michael) Lybarger of Bend, Will (Debbie) Fisher of Little Rock, AR, Keith Fisher of Texarkana, AR, Pam (Jeff) Carter of Bristol, VT, Lisa Roberts of Bend, and Heidi (Jeff) Dosier of Belleville, IL; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for Will at a later date. Donations in Wills memory may be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas, 66675; woundedwarriorproject.org or to Gideons International, Gideons.org.
