Local golfer advances to NAIA National Championships — Jesse Heinly, of Bend, has advanced with his Concordia University golf team to the NAIA National Championships, while Jared Lambert, of Redmond, narrowly missed out on a berth last week at the Cascade Collegiate Championship at Ridgecrest Golf Club in Nampa, Idaho. Heinly, a senior at Concordia of Portland, finished in second place at 4 over par, a shot back from Northwest Christian’s Tyler Falk, who birdied the par-5 18th hole to win. Concordia won the team championship and as such advances to the national tournament. Lambert, a junior at Corban University in Salem, landed at 5 over and in third place. Lambert held a four-shot lead on Heinly and a five-shot lead on Falk at the turn in the final round, but a quadruple bogey pushed him back into the pack. (Editor’s note: This story has been corrected. In the original version, Jesse Heinly’s status for the NAIA National Championships was incorrectly stated. The Bulletin regrets the error.)

Bend woman finishes second at Tournament of Champions — Rosie Cook, a 43-year-old from Bend, finished in a three way-tie for second place last weekend at the 70th Oregon Golf Association Tournament of Champions. Cook carded a 9-over-par 151 at Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora. That put her six shots back of winner Gigi Stoll, of Beaverton. Cook was the lone Central Oregonian in the field of 18 women golfers. Bend’s Charlie Rice (15 over) finished in 15th place in the men’s draw, which had three Central Oregon golfers out of a field of 74.
