A: Reprising our standard response regarding “ever,” that is a very, very long time that no one has all the answers about … and as long as the person in question is still around, there’s always a chance of anything.
With that said, since leaving the CBS series at the start of the current season, the actress has filmed a role in a movie drama titled “The 33.” The true story of Chilean mineworkers who were trapped in a 2010 crisis, the film also stars Antonio Banderas, Gabriel Byrne, Juliette Binoche, Rodrigo Santoro and Lou Diamond Phillips. No release date had been set as of this writing.
Q: Will they ever bring back “Vegas”?
— Georgia Rawle, Kingman, Ariz.
A: Only if a network were to pick it up in repeats. The CBS series ended a year ago, its fate sealed when a move from Tuesdays to Fridays did little to benefit its ratings. Another definite sign it’s done: Michael Chiklis, one of its central stars, will be a regular in the next season of FX’s “American Horror Story.” The existing season of “Vegas” is available on DVD.
Q: Did Tony Curtis ever do a television series?
Trending
— Joe Pond, Stuart, Fla.
A: Several, in fact. After roles in episodes of some of the anthology drama series of the 1950s, his focus was on movie work throughout the 1960s, but he teamed with Roger Moore for the British-made early 1970s adventure series “The Persuaders!” That only lasted one season, as did his subsequent home-screen effort, a component of the NBC “Mystery Movie” franchise titled “McCoy.”
Though he didn’t appear in every episode, Curtis was in the cast of the 1978-81 ABC detective show “Vega$,” playing a casino magnate who retained private eye Dan Tanna (Robert Urich). Throughout the remainder of his career, Curtis did guest shots on such shows as “The Fall Guy,” “Roseanne,” and “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.”
Q: I enjoyed the recent PBS documentary about the Dave Clark Five, and I was interested by the mention of the pop music series “Ready Steady Go!” Has that ever been shown in America?
— Doug Marsh, Baltimore
A: Yes, but only for a brief time. Clark bought the rights to the tapes that existed of the classic British show that featured many of the top performers of the mid-1960s — including, as might be expected, the Dave Clark Five — and for a time, Disney Channel was one of the takers. That actually was the only run that the show has had in the United States to date.
Q: Is there any update on Tom Selleck doing any more “Jesse Stone” movies?
— Mike Carter, Buffalo, N.Y.
A: We got that update very recently from the man himself, and additional dramas about the Robert P. Parker-created character are still very much on Selleck’s mind. He says CBS isn’t interested in continuing them, so it’s a matter of finding another outlet where he can make them to his creative satisfaction for an acceptable budget.
Q: I heard that the actors from “Nashville” are going out on an actual concert tour. Is that true?
— Donna Smith, Sacramento, Calif.
A: Not all of them, but several stars of the ABC series — Charles Esten, Clare Bowen, Jonathan Jackson, Sam Palladio and Chris Carmack — have banded together to give live performances. Their first engagement was in Chicago at the end of April; this week, they’re slated to appear in Washington, D.C. (Sunday), Philadelphia (Monday) and New York (Tuesday).
Q: It’s been a year since “Star Trek Into Darkness” was in theaters. Is it coming to any of the pay channels soon?
— Steve Kane, Racine, Wis.
A: It already has. For the past couple of months, it’s been on EPIX … which isn’t as widely distributed as HBO or Showtime but has become the main home of movies from the Paramount, MGM and Lionsgate studios, since they co-own the channel.
