College Notes

Kiefer Kuhn, of Bend, presented his project, “Reservoir-Scale Sequence Stratigraphy and Facies Variation Within the Mississippian Leadville Limestone, Southwestern San Juan Mountains, Colorado” at an Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Symposium at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo.

The following students graduated with bachelor’s degrees from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash.: Alexandra Crowell, Olivia Grout, Conor Hegewald, Rae Keener, Eliza Miller, William Pon and Jack Siemens.

The following local students have been named to the spring 2014 Dean’s List at George Fox University: Courtney Boyd, Alethea Kercher, Raeann Morelli, Ryan Rudnick, Scott Stevens, Andrew Harris, Justin Holman, Brea Munsell, Jacob Munsell, Michaela Conley, Sommer Kirk, Sarah MacKenzie, Weldin Yanes, Ben Fullhart and Madelyn Larson.

The following local students have been initiated into Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society at Oregon State University: Cody Manriquez, Andrew Su, Terese Thompson, Kelly Simoneau, Eric Sorenson, Tamara Apple, Tyler Sanderson, Rebecca Johnson, Kayla Meredith, Debora Tirrill and Laura McManaway.

Teen Feats

Samuel Taylor, a member of Crew 120, earned the rank of Eagle Scout on Feb. 24. For his Eagle project, Samuel contributed 247 volunteer hours planning and developing the construction of a storage shed for Bethlehem Inn. He is the son of Robert and Alexandra Taylor, of Bend.

Alexander Noble, a member of Crew 66, earned the rank of Eagle Scout on Feb. 24. For his Eagle project, he contributed 70 volunteer hours planning and leading a presentation of World War II for the Boys & Girls Club of Bend. He is the son of Jennifer Noble.

Abigail Black, a senior at Summit High School, has been awarded the 2014 BBT Architects scholarship. Abigail plans to attend Colorado State University in Fort Collins to pursue a degree in environmental engineering. She maintains a 4.0 GPA and volunteers 100 hours annually for local organizations like Becca’s Closet and the Humane Society.

Dylan Gillespie, a senior at Mountain View High School, took second on the upright bass at the Oregon School Activities Association State Championship solo competition at Lewis & Clark. He is the son of Derek and Teresa Gillespie, of Bend.
