A 7-year-old Bend boy was found by a search team early this evening after being lost for more than an hour near La Pine.

The boy was reported missing shortly after 5 p.m. from McKay Crossing Campground, which is approximately 5 miles east of U.S. Highway 97 and adjacent to Paulina Creek, according to Deschutes County Search and Rescue. More than 20 Search and Rescue volunteers, as well as a Bend Police Department tracking dog and other law enforcement agencies, responded to the call.

With the help of the dog, searchers found the boy around 6:15 p.m., about a mile from where he disappeared. He had walked approximately a mile through brush towards the sounds of vehicle traffic on the road, Search and Rescue said. He was in good condition and reunited with his family.
