Bands like The Abigails are gonna put me out of a job.

After all, why do you need me to describe the L.A. band’s sound when they can do it almost as clearly and certainly more colorfully?

Here are three excerpts from the “About” section of The Abigails’ Facebook, all of which are perfectly evocative, not to mention dead on:

• Under Biography: “DEBAUCHED ZEN FROM THE COUNTRY-FRIED SPIRAL PITS OF SATANICAL WONDERLUST.” (They probably mean wanderlust.)

• Under Genre: “DRUNKEN NYLON STRING TWANG.” (They’re talking about acoustic guitars there.)

• Under Description: “THERE’S A HOOTENANNY IN BUMMERVILLE & WE’RE LEAVIN’ WITH THE FEAR.” (Please note that I added the apostrophes.)

The Abigails are fronted by a guy named Warren Thomas, formerly of notorious psych-garage-punks The Growlers. Thomas’ canyon-deep voice and lackadaisical drawl match perfectly with his band’s dusky, slow-moving country music, and the result recalls ‘60s outsider-country icon Lee Hazlewood, but rougher around the edges. For you newfangled types, imagine watching the guy from The National sing classic country covers through badly bloodshot eyes and a lysergic haze, and you’ve got some idea of what The Abigails do.

Anyway, the band has a terrific new album called “Tundra” out on Burger Records, arguably the hottest indie label putting out rock records right now. And this weekend, they’ll bring their stoney slow jams to Bend. Yee-haw! OK, not “Yee-haw!” More like, “That’s cool, man.”

The Abigails, with Old Timer; 8 p.m. Sunday; $5; Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Drive, Bend; www.volcanictheatrepub.com.
