SOFTBALL
Bend team second at state — The Avalanche 12U girls fast pitch team placed second at the Oregon Amateur Softball Association 12U state tournament in Springfield on June 13. The Avalanche, who are made up of players from Bend and Sunriver, lost to the Northwest Batbusters 9-7 in the championship game. Avalanche team members are Emma Monne, Jessie Wiest, Mae Berroth, Audrey Nelson, Ashleigh Parker, Jasmine Wammock, Kaitlyn Lampham, Isabelle Spitler, Emily Smith, Taylor Smith, Casity Bunting and Allicitie Frost. Coaches are Pat Smith, Dan Parker, Randy Wiest, Scott Smith and Steve Wammock. The Bend-based squad, which is 57-7, plays in the ASA Fast Pitch 12U Western Nationals in Salem on July 27-Aug. 3.
SOCCER
BPRD looking for volunteer coaches — Bend Park & Recreation District is seeking adult volunteer coaches for the 2014 Bend Unified Recreation Soccer League, a joint program with Bend FC Timbers. The program is for boys and girls going into grades 1-8. The season runs from Aug. 18 to Oct. 25. Practices are held twice a week and games are played on Saturdays.
