Vinci was broken five times in the match and lost her last three service games. The two players are 2-2 in head-to-heads with Vinci beating Wozniacki when she was the top-ranked player in 2011.

Slumping Sparks fire Ross as coach — Carol Ross has been fired as coach of the slumping Los Angeles Sparks, and she will be replaced by general manager Penny Toler for the rest of the season. The team made the move on Sunday. The Sparks are in fourth place in the Western Conference, 8½ games behind first-place Phoenix. Ross had a 61-36 record in 2 ½ years with the Sparks, including two playoff appearances. Toler says it was time to bring in a different energy to the team. Also out is assistant coach Gail Goestenkors, who was elected to the women’s Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday. Toler was the first woman to score a basket in the WNBA in 1997, when she played for the Sparks. She retired from playing in 1999 and became the team’s general manager in 2000, presiding over the Sparks’ back-to-back WNBA titles in 2001 and 2002.

Clippers re-sign free-agent forward Davis — Big Baby is staying with the Los Angeles Clippers. The team said Saturday that it has re-signed Glen Davis, who averaged 4.2 points and 3.0 rebounds in 23 games last season, when he joined the Clippers at the end of February. The 28-year-old free-agent forward has also played for Orlando and Boston, where he and current Clippers coach Doc Rivers won the NBA championship in 2008.

Sherman, Seahawks draw 22,000 to softball game — Not that it should come as a surprise, but Seattle is still crazy about its Super Bowl champion Seahawks. The latest example came Sunday when an announced crowd of 22,000 turned out at Safeco Field for Richard Sherman’s charity softball game. After being played in a minor-league baseball park last season, Sherman’s event filled the entire lower bowl of the Seattle Mariners’ home stadium from one foul pole to the other. Sherman’s event featured a litany of Seahawks teammates, including quarterback Russell Wilson, defensive end Michael Bennett, wide receiver Doug Baldwin and safety Earl Thomas. Also playing was Kobe Bryant, who said he hadn’t swung a bat in 20 years. Bryant hit a solo homer over the temporary fence in the outfield.
