The Deschutes Dash is just one of a handful of upcoming triathlons in the area. Have to go to a wedding this weekend? Not quite in shape? Scheduled to do the Bend Ale Trail on Saturday and Sunday? Here is a list of regional triathlons scheduled for the next two months.
MID-SUMMER TRIATHLON & DUATHLON
Date: Sunday, Aug. 3
Where: Fairview, 15 miles east of Portland
Distances: Novice (400-meter swim, 12-mile bike, 5K run); sprint (800-meter swim, 12-mile bike, 5K run); Olympic (1.5K swim, 40K bike, 10K run); duathlon (5K run, 12-mile bike, 5K run)
Description: The Mid-Summer Triathlon & Duathlon takes place at Blue Lake State Park in water that is typically warmer than 70 degrees the first week of August. The bike and run courses are flat and fast.

ALUMINUM MAN TRIATHLON & DUATHLON
Date: Saturday, Sept. 6
Where: The Dalles
Distances: Sprint (.5K swim, 25K bike, 5K run); Olympic (1K swim, 50K bike, 10K run); duathlon (50K bike, 10K run)
Description: The Aluminum Man swim is a triangle-shaped course in the Columbia River. The bike heads east out of town while the run is an out-and-back course along the Columbia.

MAC DASH SPRINT TRIATHLON
Date: Saturday, Sept. 6
Where: Madras
Distances: Sprint (500-yard swim, 12-mile bike, 3-mile run); youth long course (six widths of the lap pool; 1-mile bike, 400-meter run); youth short course (two widths of the lap pool, 1⁄3 mile bike, 400-meter run)
Description: A great race for first-time triathletes, the MAC Dash starts with a 500-yard swim at the Madras Aquatic Center. The bike is a short loop around Madras and the run is staged on a paved running trail before ending on the Jefferson County Middle School track. The kids’ mini MAC DASH is free and open to children 10 and under.

BEST IN THE WEST TRIATHLON FESTIVAL
Date: Sept. 6-7
Where: Sweet Home
Distances: Half Iron (1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, 13.1-mile run); Olympic (1.5K swim, 40K bike, 10K run); sprint (500-meter swim, 12-mile bike, 5K run); Try-a-Tri (300-meter swim, 5-mile bike, 3.1-mile run); Olympic duathlon (40K bike, 5K run); sprint duathlon (12-mile bike, 5K run)
Description: Half Iron and sprint triathlons are Saturday while the Olympic and Try-a-Tri triathlons will be Sunday. Swims take place in Foster Lake.

LEADMAN TRI
Date: Saturday, Sept. 20
Where: Bend
Distances: Leadman 85 (1K swim, 75K bike, 12K run); Leadman 125 (2.5K swim, 106K bike, 12K run); Leadman 250 (5K swim, 223K bike, 22K run)
Description: The Leadman swims take place in Cultus Lake, and each bike leg works its way around Mount Bachelor before ending up in Bend’s NorthWest Crossing neighborhood.

PORTLAND TRIATHLON
Date: Sunday, Sept. 21
Distances: Olympic (1.5K swim, 40K bike, 10K run); sprint (750-meter swim, 26K bike, 5K run)
Description: Triathletes start with an out-and-back swim in the Willamette River under the St. Johns Bridge in North Portland. The bike course loops around the St. Johns neighborhood — Olympic-distance competitors do the loop twice — and the run boasts portions of the Portland Marathon, including an out-and-back section over the St. Johns Bridge.
