A Madras man was killed Thursday night after he was struck by a car while walking on U.S. Highway 26.

According to Oregon State Police, Michael D. Thompson, 52, was walking west in the travel lane about 2 miles north of Madras shortly after 9 p.m. when he was struck by a car driven by Robert C. Towler, 78, of Madras.

Thompson was transported by ambulance to St. Charles Madras, where he later died. Towler was not injured.
