Employees of 7 Peaks Paving, of Bend, lay down an asphalt pad Wednesday morning that will be the future site of a new skatepark in La Pine.

The asphalt rectangle, which will be 2 inches thick, 20 feet wide and 100 feet long, is the first phase of the Dream to Skate project, a grass-roots cooperative project with local skateboarders helping to raise money for the park features and La Pine Park and Recreation donating the land. The majority of the work is being donated by area businesses, including 7 Peaks Paving.

With funds raised in the community, La Pine Park and Recreation purchased the ramps, which will be installed when the asphalt cures, from the old Sisters skatepark.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the La Pine skatepark, located near Heritage Park on Huntington Road, has been scheduled for Sept. 13.
