It’s time to strap on your stilettos! Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper’s “Kinky Boots” is coming to Portland.
As part of its first national tour, the award-winning musical kicks off Portland’s Broadway Across America series Oct. 1-5 at the Keller Auditorium.
Inspired by a true story, “Kinky Boots” follows “a struggling shoe factory owner who works to turn his business around with help from the most unlikely person … a drag queen named Lola,” according to the show’s website.
The musical debuted April 4, 2013, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on Broadway. Featuring a score by Lauper, book by Fierstein and choreography by Jerry Mitchell, “Kinky Boots” won six Tony Awards including Best Musical. Lauper’s win for Best Score marked the first time a solo woman won the award in that category, according to the website.
Along with “Kinky Boots,” the 2014-15 Broadway Across America season in Portland features “Mamma Mia!” (Nov. 25-30), “Dirty Dancing” (Jan. 13-18), “Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella” (Feb. 17-22), “Guys and Dolls” (March 10-15), “I Love Lucy Live on Stage” (April 7-12), “The Phantom of the Opera” (May 13-23) and “Wicked” (Aug. 5-23). Season subscriptions are available for all plays. Single tickets are available a few weeks before each show’s run.
Single tickets for “Kinky Boots” are currently on sale. Ticket prices range from $29 to $94, plus fees, depending on seat location and day of performance. To purchase tickets, visit www.portland5.com or call 800-273-1530.
