A Bend-area transient was booked into the Deschutes County jail after he allegedly attempted to rob a Northeast Bend taco shop early Tuesday with a BB gun and a knife, according to the Bend Police Department.

The man, Luis Gonzales, 49, allegedly entered Rigoberto’s Taco Shop on Northeast Third Street around 4 a.m. on Tuesday. Gonzales displayed the BB handgun to an employee, saying it was a real firearm, and requested the money in the cash register.

The employee, Adrian Rios-Venegas, refused and gave Gonzales a burrito and $20 to encourage him to leave. Rios-Venegas also reported he was being robbed to two citizens in the drive-through, who called 911.

Bend Police and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office responded. Gonzales fled and was confronted by officers and taken into custody on suspicion of robbery, theft and menacing. He is being held on $205,000 bail.
