BASKETBALL

Volunteer coaches needed — Bend Park and Recreation District is seeking adult volunteers to coach youth basketball for the upcoming 2015 season. Participants are boys and girls in grades 3-5. The season starts Jan. 5 and runs through March 7. Practices are held twice a week with games played on Saturdays. NORDIC SKI

BEA names new nordic development director — Bend Endurance Academy announced last week that Jordan Buetow, who ski raced at Bates College in Maine, will join BEA’s coaching staff as its head of nordic development. Buetow capped his college career with a fourth-place finish at the 2014 U.S. Cross-Country Championships A Sprint Finals last January. The Alaska native trained with BEA in summer 2013.

Art contest opens — The annual art contest for the U.S. Bank Pole Pedal Paddle is now open. Artists of all ages are encouraged to submit artwork for the logo contest. The design winner will receive a commemorative plate, gear and $500. Deadline for the contest is 5 p.m., Dec. 29. The 2015 PPP is scheduled for May 16. Contest entries should be mailed or dropped off at Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation’s offices at 563 SW 13th Street on the corner of Century Drive and Donovan Street.
