TULSA, Okla. — Olivia Armstrong, of Bend, won the girls cruiser title at the USA BMX Grand National this past weekend.

Armstrong, a 14-year-old freshman at Bend High, defeated riders from Missouri, Nevada, California, Texas, Tennessee, Florida and Colorado to win the age 13-14 cruiser title.

Her victory boosted her to the top of the point standings, making her the No. 1-ranked female cruiser rider in the nation.

A local racer at the High Desert BMX track in Bend, Armstrong earned enough wins throughout the year at USA BMX National events that she was sitting in the No. 2 spot in points coming into Tulsa.

More than 5,000 racers competed at the Grand National, which bills itself as the largest BMX racing event in the world.
