David Jacobs-Strain returns to Sisters

Alert! Alert! HarmonyHouse sighting! Alert!

A year ago, the Sisters house/barn-concert venue announced that it would stop hosting intimate, acoustic shows after a six-year run, capping its existence with a show by Oregon bluesman David Jacobs-Strain.

That was a bummer; the HarmonyHouse — a wood shop on Doug and Katie Cavanaugh’s property southeast of Sisters — had become a vital part of Central Oregon’s music scene, hosting regional favorites and nationally touring folk singers like Jonathan Byrd, Stacey Earle and Fred Eaglesmith.

This, then, is good news: On Wednesday, the HarmonyHouse will open for a special concert, again by Jacobs-Strain, a slide-guitar wizard with the voice of an ancient blues singer and the earthy soul of a Eugenian. He’s a killer player and performer. Hear his work at www.davidjacobs-strain.bandcamp.com.

He’s also planning a new live album, and he’s recording five shows on the West Coast toward that effort, including the one at the HarmonyHouse. Harpist Bob Beach will accompany Jacobs-Strain, and Doug Cavanaugh will have a warming fire roaring. Bring your own beer, and some to share.

David Jacobs-Strain, with Bob Beach; 7 p.m. Wednesday; $20 suggested donation; HarmonyHouse, 17505 Kent Road, Sisters; 541-548-2209.
