A Day Set Aside for the Love of Classic Cars

Published 12:00 am Wednesday, April 15, 2015

Take the family out for a day filled with classic cars and good eats. For the seventh year in a row, hundreds of pristine automobiles, dating as far back as the 1920s, will take over downtown Redmond for Diego’s Seventh Annual Spring Fling Car Show.

Nearly to 300 unique cars will all be on display from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 25, with plenty of amazing restaurants within walking distance, including the event sponsor Diego’s Spirited Kitchen.

Car gazing will be open and free to the public up and down Sixth and Seventh streets, while a raffle and silent auction will take place in Centennial Park. Each year the proceeds from the raffle and auction have been given to a local charity or organization. This year proceeds will benefit the Redmond Habitat for Humanity.

Since the car show began in 2009, it has continued to grow in popularity. This year more than a dozen Oregon car clubs plan to participate, including the Central Oregon Old Car Club (one of the oldest car clubs in Oregon), High Desert Corvettes, Crook County Rodders, Line Chasers, Redmond Drifters, High Desert MOPAR Club, Porsche Club of America, COSRA, Mustang Club of Central Oregon, Crooked River Ranch Group, Model A’s of Central Oregon, and the Chevy Club.

All the fun isn’t reserved exclusively for car clubs; independent car owners are also welcome to participate. In fact, in order to attract car owners of all ages, the show is open to cars of all years. Other categories will include Porsche, Mustang, Model A’s or T’s, and two age classes for Corvettes. Each category will award trophies to first and second place winners.

Interested parties can pick up forms to register a car to show at the event at Madeline’s Restaurant or Diego’s Spirited Kitchen in Redmond, or Sonic locations in Bend or Redmond. For those registering by April 24, the fee is $25 with a $10 food voucher included. Entrees on the day of the show should be completed by 8 a.m. and will cost $30, with a $10 food voucher included.

There is something for everyone to enjoy at this year’s Spring Fling Car Show, so don’t miss it!
