Bend takes top singles, doubles to beat MV

Bend High took three of four singles matches and three of four in doubles play to notch the 6-2 Class 5A Special District 1 boys tennis victory at Mountain View.

Zach Hite, Sean Hebert and Jaden Boehme were straight-set winners in the top three singles slots for Bend.

The Cougars’ Brooks Larrenta and Derek Miller came back from a 4-1 deficit in the first set to score a 6-4, 6-3 win over Aaron Banquer-Glenn and Nick Campbell at No. 1 doubles.

Girls tennis

Bend 8, Mountain View 0: The host Lava Bears did not drop a set as they cruised to a Class 5A Special District 1 victory. Jesse Vezo logged a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles for Bend, while the No. 1 doubles team of Kyla Collier and Sydney Meeuwssen recorded a decisive 6-1, 6-0 win.

Baseball

Summit 13, Mountain View 5: The No. 2-ranked Storm poured on seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to cruise to an Intermountain Conference win on the road. Cal Waterman led the Storm (7-1 IMC, 15-1 overall) with two hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Alex Bailey and Noah Yunker each chipped in with two hits for Summit. Derek Ostrom led the Cougars (1-5, 4-10) with two hits, including a solo home run in the third inning. Cody Anthony also recorded two hits and drove in two runs for Mountain View.

Boys lacrosse

Mountain View 14, Nadzitsaga 1: The Cougars improved to 2-3 in High Desert Conference play and 5-6 overall.

Softball

Mountain View 12, Summit 2: The Cougars scored six runs in the bottom of the third on their way to a five-inning Intermountain conference win. Savannah Phillips went 3-for-3 with four RBIs for Mountain View (3-3 IMC, 7-9 overall), hitting a solo home run in the second inning. Samantha Smith had three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs for the Cougs. The Storm dropped to 1-7 in league play and 6-10 overall.

Bend 22, Redmond 6: REDMOND — Bend scored 10 runs in the sixth inning to seal an Intermountain conference win against Redmond. Redmond (2-4 IMC, 4-11 overall) gave up 16 walks and committed 8 errors, negating the fact that they matched the Lava Bears on hits. Awbrie Ellie Kinkade had four hits, including a three run home run, and 4 RBIs, Brooke Berry hit a home run, and Lacey Bunting was a home run short of a cycle, with three hits and 4 RBIs for Bend (4-2, 9-7). Redmond was led by Madison Edwards with two hits and an RBI.
