Supersuckers to rock Bend

- Submitted photo The Supersuckers are set to perform with The Yawpers tonight at the Volcanic Theatre Pub in Bend.
Self-proclaimed “greatest rock ’n’ roll band in the world” the Supersuckers (though you’d never guess it by their name) have had a rough run of things since their 2008 album “Get it Together.”
With the departures of longtime manager Chris Neal and founding guitarist Montrose Heathman shortly after the album’s release, the band went on hiatus.
Lead vocalist and bassist Eddie Spaghetti released a solo album, 2011’s “Sundowner,” which delved deeper into the country sounds his band explored in the mid-’90s. He last appeared in Bend on the tour for his 2013 solo album “The Value of Nothing.”
But there’s nothing country about last year’s “Get the Hell,” the band’s first studio set in six years. This is classic ’Suckers, full of sleazy riffs and sleazier lyrics (even the Depeche Mode cover, “Never Let Me Down Again,” rocks) that call to mind the 1999 album “The Evil Powers of Rock ’N’ Roll” or the 1992 debut “The Smoke of Hell.” It’s probably no coincidence that “hell” appears in both album titles.
The Seattle-by-way-of-Tucson four-piece, with new guitarist “Metal” Marty Chandler and drummer “Captain” Chris Von Streicher joining Spaghetti and fellow co-founding guitarist Dan “Thunder” Bolton, are on the road this summer. They kicked things off in Long Beach, California, on June 7, and will be at the Volcanic Theatre Pub in Bend on Wednesday. Local cowpunkers Harley Bourbon are slated to open.
