Broken Down Guitars opens free series in Bend

Local roots rock group Broken Down Guitars also appeared in these pages recently — in March, the band bid adieu to its violinist, Lilli Worona.

A scant three months later, the band is set to kick off another free summer concert series in its hometown. The Bend Memorial Clinic Free Summer Sunday Concerts begin this Sunday (who would have guessed) with BDG hitting the Les Schwab Amphitheater stage at 2:30 p.m.

The rest of the series continues in a Pacific Northwest-centric vein, but genre-wise it is all over the map: Seattle’s Tubaluba (New Orleans-style jazz, soul and rock), Portland’s Okaidja & Shokoto (African and world rhythms) and Bend’s own Wilderness will all make appearances in the series this year.

And former Bendites Cloverdayle, husband-and-wife duo who left for Nashville last year to seek country music fame and fortune, return home for a gig as well.

The free music continues every Sunday (except for July 12) through Aug. 2. The rest of the schedule is as follows:

June 28 — Tubaluba

July 5 — Cloverdayle

July 19 — Chiringa!

July 26 — Okaidja & Shokoto

Aug. 2 — Wilderness

Broken Down Guitars; 2:30 p.m. Sunday, free, Les Schwab Amphitheater, 344 SW Shevlin Hixon Drive, Bend; www.bendconcerts.com or (541) 312-8510. — Brian McElhiney
