Summer Sundays are for music

Hundreds chose to close out the holiday weekend in Bend on Sunday by enjoying music at the Les Schwab Amphitheater.

The Free Summer Sunday Concert was played by Cloverdayle, a country duo from Oregon that recently moved to Nashville.

The lawn quickly filled up with umbrellas, tents and blankets. Children played with beach balls and blew bubbles in between taking a turn at dancing to the music.

Mike White, of Bend, brought his daughter, Ava, to the concert on Sunday. He said the outdoor venue is ideal and he goes to concerts there at least a few times each year.

“I think the concept is great,” White said. “I love coming out here for every event. This is a great venue, so it’s hard to not take advantage of this.”

The country duo, made up of Rachel and Chad Hamar, recently released their second full-length record, “Off the Grid.” The band has played at the amphitheater before and at one time called Bend home.

Ted Lund, of Bend, said it was his first time at the summer concert series, but he said he has enjoyed Cloverdayle for a while.

“I’ve known them for a long time,” Lund said. “I love our local bands in Bend.”

Lund brought to the concert an American flag that belonged to his father, a World War II veteran. As the music played, Lund hoisted it up in the air. Lund said he brought the flag because he believes in America and wanted to show support for his country.

Cloverdayle played songs from its new album, including “Wildfire,” “Play Me Something I Can Drink To” and “Off the Grid.” After the show, a drawing was held to give away the new record to a lucky fan.

The free concert series, sponsored by Bend Memorial Clinic, has three shows left. Shows begin at 2:30 p.m.
