Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons play Bend

Guitar slinger Jerry Joseph and his longtime band the Jackmormons have built a reputation for raising a big, loud, rock ’n’ roll ruckus over nearly two decades of touring.
But fans of this songwriting powerhouse will see a mellower side of the man and his band Thursday night at McMenamin’s Old St. Francis School. Joseph, a Californian who has at various points called New Zealand, Utah and now Portland his home, is touring McMenamin’s locations across Oregon in a stripped-down, acoustic setting.
It’s fitting — Joseph’s most recent self-titled full length showcases acoustic versions of songs from throughout his career with the Jackmormons and his ’80s roots-reggae-jam hybrid, Little Women. The album serves as a testament to the guitarist’s claim as an influential Northwest songwriter, not that more evidence was needed. Jam band Widespread Panic, which Joseph had a hand in discovering, has recorded at least seven of Joseph’s songs throughout its career. And earlier this year, Joseph and the Jackmormons were inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame.
Joseph continues to push forward with the Jackmormons. Last year’s seven-song EP “Singing in the Rain” combines nearly all the sounds Joseph has dealt in throughout his career, from rolling blues rock to jazz to high-energy pop hooks on the record’s title track.
