Storm shut out Panthers

REDMOND — Summit was true to its No. 2 Class 5A state ranking, staying unbeaten with a 12-0 romp over Redmond in the Intermountain Conference girls soccer opener for both teams on Thursday.
Nine different players scored for the visiting Storm (1-0 IMC, 6-0-1 overall), including two goals each by Gabbie Brocker and Michaela Gorman. Also scoring for Summit were Sofia Ellington, assisted by Megan Cornett, Lila Reinecke, assisted by Piper Flannery, and Camille Weaver, Cornett, Julia Hager, Mya Fraley and Quin Fraley.
The Storm’s other score came on an own goal by the Panthers (0-1, 0-5-1).

Bend 5, Ridgeview 1: REDMOND — Four different Lava Bears scored as Bend cruised to victory over Ridgeview in both teams’ Intermountain Conference opener. Meagan Bakker scored the first goal in the ninth minute for No. 1 Bend (6-0-1) and struck again in the 58th before assisting Kylee Roath on Bend’s final goal. Aspen Jeter scored the lone goal for the Ravens (4-3) off a penalty kick in the 55th minute.
Molalla 9, Madras 0: MOLALLA — The No. 1-ranked Class 4A team in the state was too much for Madras in the Tri-Valley Conference match. The visiting White Buffaloes (0-2 TVC, 2-4 overall) dropped their third consecutive game despite what coach Krista Hayes called solid efforts by freshman goalie Genesis Quiroz and midfielder/defender Analy Diaz.
La Pine 3, Glide 0: LA PINE — La Pine shut out Class 3A/2A/1A Special District 4 opponent Glide, securing its first win of the season. Riley Mickel scored the first goal for La Pine (1-2 SD4, 1-5 overall) in the 22nd minute, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead at halftime. Olivia Ramirez scored in the 43rd minute for La Pine, and Sami Byers scored in the 59th minute on an assist from Mickel.
Sisters 2, Junction City 1: SISTERS — Nika Chick and Michaela Miller each had a goal, leading the Outlaws to a Sky-Em League win over Junction City. Chick and Miller assisted on each other’s scores. After a scoreless first half, Sisters (3-0 Sky-Em, 3-3 overall) scored two quick goals in the 43rd and 47th minutes. The Outlaws allowed their only goal against in the 55th minute.
Gladtsone 4, Crook County 0: GLADSTONE — The Cowgirls slipped to 0-2 in Tri-Valley Conference play and 2-3 overall.

Summit 10, Redmond 1: REDMOND — Summit got out of the gate fast against outmanned Redmond in the Intermountain Conference opener for both teams. Cole Abbott scored the first and second goals of the contest to start the visiting Storm on their way. Garrett Jepson also scored twice for Summit, and Mack van der Velde, Ragnar Schmidt, Kai Robinson, Mateo Fluhman, Florian Costa and Ivan Kufeldt all added goals for the Storm (1-0 IMC, 2-2-2 overall). Casey Weaver had two assists for the winners. Ernesto Chavez scored the lone goal for the winless Panthers (0-1, 0-6), who dressed only 13 players for the match.
Mountain View 5, Parkrose 1: In a nonleague game originally scheduled to be played in Portland, Zach Emerson had two goals and two assists to lead the Cougars to their third straight win. The Broncos scored in the ninth minute to go up 1-0, but Taylor Willman knocked in the equalizing goal a minute later for Mountain View (4-2), which scored four goals in the second half to secure the victory. Willman finished with two scores for the Cougs, Kaeden Wodke had a goal, and Jose Torres and Chris Roman each recorded an assist.
Madras 2, Molalla 1: MADRAS — Alex Diaz scored with just five minutes left in the match to break a 1-1 tie and give Madras its first win over Tri-Valley Conference foe Molalla since 2010. Manny Diaz, Alex’s cousin, assisted on the pivotal late goal, which kept the White Buffaloes unbeaten. Madras (2-0 TVC, 5-0-1 overall) got on the scoreboard first with a goal in the 10th minute by Mikey Alonso, assisted on a free kick by Mellie Olivera. The defending TVC champions answered in the same minute on a penalty kick to create the 1-1 tie that held until the 75th minute. Madras coach Clark Jones praised the defensive performance of Omar Dominguez and Jose Romero and the strong offensive play of midfielder Sean Leriche.
Gladstone 3, Crook County 1: PRINEVILLE — Christian Hernandez scored the lone goal for Crook County, which dropped its Tri-Valley Conference contest to Gladstone. The Cowboys (0-2 TVC, 2-3 overall) scored in the 20th minute to grab a one-goal lead, but they allowed three goals to close the first half. Cristian Nunez made seven saves for Crook County and shut out Gladstone in the second half.
Sisters 3, Junction City 1: JUNCTION CITY — Malachy Sundstrom recorded two goals to lead the No. 2 Outlaws to a Sky-Em League victory over ninth-ranked Junction City. Sundstrom, who scored in the 13th and 30th minutes for Sisters (3-0 Sky-Em, 5-0-1 overall), also assisted on a Sean Willitts goal.
Volleyball
Mountain View 3, Ridgeview 1: REDMOND — Aja Perks recorded 10 kills and three blocks while committing just three errors to lead the Cougars to an Intermountain Conference victory at Ridgeview. Nichole Collins logged 29 digs for Mountain View (2-0 IMC), narrowly missing out on the single-game school record of 30, while Chandler Heinrick and Karlee Duncan combined for 22 kills. The Ravens fell to 0-3 in conference play.
Summit 3, Bend 1: Jade Waskom was 23-for-23 serving with three aces and 16 digs, leading the Storm to a 25-14, 25-21, 21-25, 25-21 Intermountain Conference home win. Haley Smith posted 16 kills for No. 4 Summit (3-0 IMC), and Isabella Rainaldi had 10 kills. Bend (1-1) was led by Tatiana Ensz, who logged 15 kills and 10 digs, while Kaci Cox chipped in with 13 kills, 15 digs and five aces.
Sisters 3, Junction City 0: SISTERS — The No. 2 Outlaws improved to 4-0 in Sky-Em League play with a 25-11, 25-23, 25-8 victory.
Crook County 3, Corbett 0: PRINEVILLE — The Cowgirls swept Corbett 25-17, 25-11, 25-8 to improve to 3-0 in the Tri-Valley Conference. Jennifer McCallister and Jennifer Roth each had nine kills, while Cassidy Dill added six kills. Abby Smith contributed with 39 assists.
Coquille 3, La Pine 0: LA PINE — The Hawks fell to No. 3 Coquille 25-14, 25-14, 25-19 just two days after losing to top-ranked Creswell. Julie Deniz led La Pine (0-2 MVC) with seven kills while Alexis Roes added seven blocks.
Culver 3, Pilot Rock 0: PILOT ROCK — Lynze Schonneker was “phenomenal,” according to Culver coach Randi Viggiano, finishing with 12 kills, nine digs and six aces to help the Bulldogs to a 25-15, 25-18, 25-20 Columbia Basin Conference win. Jenny Vega totaled seven kills, five digs and an ace for No. 3 Culver (2-0 CBC), while Margie Beeler posted 25 assists and six aces. Emma Hoke contributed with 11 digs and two aces.
Estacada 3, Madras 0: ESTACADA — Madras lost in straight sets against Tri-Valley Conference opponent Estacada 25-9, 25-5, 25-2. The White Buffaloes (0-4 TVC) play at home against Gladstone on Tuesday.
Boys water polo
Summit 12, Madras 7: MADRAS — Devan Swan was credited with 11 blocks in goal, helping the Storm edge the White Buffaloes at Madras Aquatic Center. Koal Robson, Matt Berry, Baxter Halligan and Brodie Mead each scored twice for Summit.
Mountain View 13, Ridgeview 5: Three goals each by Iqmal Wolfenden and Alex Pitcher allowed the Cougars to race past Ridgeview at Juniper Swim & Fitness Center. Pitcher also had an assist and a steal for Mountain View, and Trevor Fox and Noah Weedman each had two goals and an assist.
Girls water polo
Ridgeview 6, Mountain View 5: Chelsea Evans and Alyssa Cannon each had two goals, but the Cougars dropped a nail-biter to the visiting Ravens at Juniper Swim & Fitness Center. Cassidy Evans scored for Mountain View, while Maya Hatch and Julia Gorman each had a steal.

Hawks run at Harrier’s Challenge: COTTAGE GROVE — Hunter Schaffer placed 30th overall to lead the La Pine boys at the Harrier’s Challenge, staged at Schwarz Park near Dorena Lake. Schaffer covered the 5,000-meter course in 20 minutes, 6 seconds. Hassan Ibrahim of Jefferson won the boys race in 16:45. In the girls race, Chloe Miller posted the fastest time among La Pine entries, finishing 52nd overall in 28:59. Winner of the girls race was Crater’s Jordan Monroe, in 20:22.
