A rundown of games and events to watch for locally and nationally from the world of sports (all times Pacific):

Today

NFL football, Kansas City at Green Bay, 5:30 p.m. (ESPN): The 50th Super Bowl will be played at the end of this season, so perhaps it is fitting that the teams that played in the very first Super Bowl face off in a regular-season game in prime time. The Packers look poised to return to the Super Bowl; if the Chiefs are to be part of a rematch, a win tonight could be key.

Tuesday

Prep volleyball, Mountain View at Bend, 6:30 p.m.; Ridgeview at Redmond, 6:30 p.m.: If any team is going to challenge Summit for supremacy in the Intermountain Conference this fall, it is likely to be the Cougars or the Lava Bears, who square off in a Civil War matchup. In Redmond, the Ravens and Panthers collide in another intracity contest; both teams are seeking their first conference victory.

Friday

Prep cross-country, Oxford Classic in Bend, 1 p.m.: Staged at spectator-friendly Drake Park, this annual meet is hosted by Bend High School and is billed as one of the premier prep cross-country meets in the Northwest. Almost every Central Oregon high school team will be represented. The meet’s six races feature the girls varsity race at 2 p.m. and the boys varsity race at 2:30 p.m.

Friday

Prep football, Redmond at Bend, 7 p.m.; Summit at Mountain View, 7 p.m.: The Intermountain Conference season gets underway with two intriguing matchups as the undefeated Lava Bears, the No. 1-ranked team in Class 5A, entertain the once-beaten Panthers, while the defending league champion Cougars play host to the No. 5-ranked Storm.

Saturday

College football, Oregon at Colorado, 7 p.m. (ESPN): While Oregon State has a bye this week, Oregon will return to the field to battle Colorado after a devastating loss to Utah on Saturday. The Ducks (2-2) beat the Buffaloes (3-1) in Eugene last year 44-10. Colorado has victories over UMass, Colorado State and Nicholls this season, as well as a road loss to Hawaii.
