James “Jim” Frank Bianchina

James “Jim” Frank Bianchina passed away at his home in Bend on September 2, at age 96.

Jim was born October 28, 1918, in San Mateo, California. He joined the army in 1940 and fought in Europe during World War II, including landing on Normandy Beach on D-Day, and returned home a captain in 1946.

Jim married Lena Spadoni on May 2, 1941. After the war, Jim worked as a produce manager for Safeway Stores in San Rafael, CA, and South Lake Tahoe, CA, until retiring in the late ’70s. He moved to Bend in 1983 and went to work for Mount Bachelor, where he became a familiar face at Sunrise Lodge.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Lena, and his daughter, Linda. He is survived by his son, Paul.
