Archery

RAPRD to sponsor introductory classes — Children ages 8 to 13 can learn archery basics at Top Pin Pro Archery at “Arrows Fly” this Tuesday through Friday. Participants will learn shooting techniques, equipment basics and range safety during the four-day course. The first class runs from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. while the next three sessions end at 5 p.m. Registration costs $25 and is available online at www.raprd.org or by phone at 541-548-7275.

BASKETBALL

BPRD adult basketball begins Nov. 1 — Anyone wishing to register a team for the Bend Park & Recreation District adult basketball leagues must do so by Oct. 18. There will be four divisions of five-on-five basketball: men’s 18 and older, men’s 35 and older, men’s 50 and older and women’s 18 and older. Registration costs $695 per team and is available online at www.bendparksandrec.org and in person at the district office at 799 SW Columbia St. Games will be played on Sunday afternoons from Nov. 1 through March 15, ending with a single elimination tournament.

Rugby

Roughriders win in Tacoma — The Bend Rugby Club defeated the Tacoma Nomads, 15-12, in Tacoma on Saturday. Mike Gamm and Shane LaMunion each scored a try and Austin Alley scored on a conversion and penalty kick as the Roughriders improved to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in league play. Bend, which is leading the Pacific NW Rugby Union Division 2, will host the Rovers of Seattle at High Desert Middle School on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Oregon team wins world championship — The Oregon Flatliners slowpitch softball team went undefeated and won the men’s major division at the Senior Softball USA World Master’s Championship held Sept. 25-27 in Las Vegas. The Flatliners, who all hail from Oregon, competed against 28 other teams in the age 55 bracket. Pitcher Hank Cain, of Bend, took home tournament MVP honors, while Jeff Black, also of Bend, was recognized with an infield gold glove. Steve Upland, of Bend, rounded out the Central Oregon contingent on the Flatliners.
