Drummers of Bend, start brushing up on your paradiddles and blastbeats.
Shawn Drover, the longest-tenured drummer for a little thrash metal band called Megadeth, will be at the Drum and Guitar Shop for the store’s grand opening all weekend. He’s offering one-on-one drum lessons from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, along with a two-hour drum clinic at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Drover, who left Megadeth last year after 10 years to form supergroup Act of Defiance with fellow Megadeth alum Chris Broderick, will also judge a drum-off all day Saturday. Aspiring pounders should prepare a five- to 10-minute solo and show up at the shop between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday (drum set will be provided). The winner receives a new, six-piece Pearl Vision drum kit.
Guitarists can get in on the action, too: Upload a video of a guitar solo to the Drum and Guitar Shop’s Facebook page to enter the riff contest. Drover will judge this, too, and perform with the winner Saturday.
That’s not all. Local metal bands will fill the shop with noise Saturday and Sunday. A full Sunday schedule was not announced by press time (Acid Crown will play at 4 p.m.), but Saturday will feature performances from Cascade Highlanders, Hell For Hire, Shovelbelt, Tentareign and Dinnirium.
The drum lessons with Drover cost $80; everything else is free.
