Michael Lington, Taylor Dayne perform in Bend

Michael Lington and Taylor Dayne will get in touch with their soulful sides when they perform together at the Tower Theatre on Tuesday.

Danish-American saxophonist Lington, best known for smooth jazz, already took a soulful turn on his eighth studio album, last year’s appropriately titled “Soul Appeal.” And while Dayne is still best known for late ’80s dance-pop hits such as “Tell it to My Heart” and “Love Will Lead You Back,” her 2008 comeback album “Satisfied” and recent single “Dreaming” showcase a seasoned, harder-edged vocal presence.

Which is to say, the collaboration works. It was road-tested at a performance at the Newport Beach Jazz Festival in May, where the two artists sparred on reimagined versions of Dayne’s hits. Some new music may be in order at the Tower, too, as Dayne is set to appear on Lington’s upcoming album, according to the saxophonist’s website.

The two artists are also collaborating for a cause at the Tower. All ticket proceeds after show expenses will go to benefit Mountain Star Family Relief Nursery, which aims to prevent child abuse through community support and therapeutic services for vulnerable children and families. The nursery, founded in 2001 in Bend, recently expanded with facilities in Prineville and Madras.
