Brian Cameron and his wife, Melissa, were looking for a way to bring their family back to Central Oregon to live when an epiphany came to him late one night in 2011.
“It just popped into my head, why not open a brewpub in Sunriver?” recalled Cameron. “I created a business plan and talked to my dad about it — he liked the idea, too, and jumped on board.”
The father and son team opened the doors of the Sunriver Brewing Company Brewhouse on July 4, 2012 in The Village at Sunriver, serving great pub food and brewing their own beer.
Then, in January of 2014 Cameron and his team opened their brewery production facility less than a quarter mile away from the brewpub. They now distribute their beer throughout Oregon and plans are in the works to expand distribution beyond the state.
“It has all happened very, very quickly,” said Cameron.
Cameron always had an interest in beer, “tinkering” with creating his own brews over the years. He also has always had an interest in the customer service industry, holding on to a dream of someday running a restaurant or a bar.
He has found that an extra bonus of being part of the brewing business is the camaraderie.
“One of the things I really love about the beer business, more than other industry I’ve been involved in, is how the business community as a whole is so much more neighborly than I expected,” said Cameron. “It feels like the attitude is that if one of us wins, then all of us win.”
He attributes the success of his business to strong community support, and in return he is committed to playing an active role in supporting the community.
“The Sunriver community accepted us open-heartedly,” said Cameron. “And it is important for us to give back.”
