Central Oregon trail update

We have snow! Tuesday’s snowfall stirred some excitement, however, there is still not enough snow base at most of the sno-parks for safe winter activities.
As of Tuesday, it had not yet been determined if Dutchman Flat would open to snowmobiles. If the brown closure signs are still posted, the flats are not open to motorized vehicles. For the most current information, call the Deschutes National Forest office, 541-383-4000.
Snowmobiles, skiing and snowshoeing are allowed on the roads past the gate from Dutchman Sno-park to Elk Lake and Moon Mountain on 370 Road.
Approximately 700 winter snow poles marking winter trails and boundaries are not in place yet. They will be installed once adequate snow depths are reached.
Due to a recent windstorm, Forest Road 16 at Upper Three Creek Sno-Park closed for the season on Friday. Cascade Lakes Highway is closed beyond Mount Bachelor to Deschutes Bridge. Road 370 is closed from Highway 46 to Road 16 near Three Creek Lake. Both the east and west side of McKenzie Pass Highway is closed. Road 21 is closed from Ten Mile Sno-park to the east end of Newberry Caldera. The road to Paulina Peak is closed for the season.
Some of the bike trails to the south of Phil’s Trailhead will close Dec. 1 due to logging operations to reduce fire fuels.
Winter trails are closed to dogs from the Meisner Sno-park area to Dutchman Flat and the Todd Lake area through April 30. Working dogs in harness are allowed on groomed snowmobile trails with a permit. Permits are free and available at the Deschutes National Forest office, Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center and Mountain Supply in Bend. Tumalo Mountain is closed to dogs.
