BendBroadband plans outages

BendBroadband plans a series of phone and Internet service outages next week in order to upgrade its network.

The outages will take place midnight-4 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the company announced on its blog Wednesday. Subscribers with cable modem service in Bend, Redmond and Sisters will be without phone or Internet services, or both, for a portion of that time.

Most customers will experience only one outage, although the telecommunications firm said it could not pinpoint which areas would be affected during what period, according to the announcement.

“This work is being done as soon and as quickly as possible,” according to the blog.

Explosive growth in demand for online video streaming for services such as Netflix, the online movie site, quickly outpaced a network expansion BendBroadband completed in May. The upgrades next week are part of a plan to increase network capacity again by the end of December, according to BendBroadband.
