Fern was born March 20, 1922 in Nevis, Alberta, Canada, to William G. and Amy Kerney Russell. Her family moved to Dallas, Oregon, where Fern was raised from the age of one until high school graduation.
Fern worked in the shipyards in Camas, WA during World War II. On March 16, 1945 she married John L. May, who predeceased her on Dec. 25, 2009. She and her husband raised their four children in Warrenton, OR later moving to The Dalles, OR.
Fern was known for her delicious pies, and enjoyed reading, needlework, gardening, and making friends. She and her husband took their travel trailer on many trips around Oregon and Washington.
She moved to Bend, OR in 2010, and passed peacefully on October 29, 2015. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Joanne Morris of Humphrey, NE; a daughter, Janice Hendrickson of Hammond, OR; a son and daughter-in-law, John May and Susan Gregory of Bend, OR; twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
