With her daughters at her side, Jopie Ferguson passed away December 9, 2015, due to complications related to Alzheimer’s Disease. Jopie maintained her bright smile and sunny disposition throughout the last few years despite her dementia.
Jopie was born to Hotze and Johanna van der Veen on January 15th, 1943, in Tilburg, The Netherlands. Jopie and her mother Johanna, step father Jacob, siblings Jaan, Lottie and Lilly immigrated to America in December 1958. She graduated from Madison High School in 1961. Jopie married the love of her life, Deryl Ferguson September 11, 1961. They later divorced in 1995.
Deryl and Jopie resided in the metro area of Portland for the first few years of their marriage. In 1969 they moved to Redmond where they raised their three daughters, Alida, Linda and Tonya. Jopie successfully co-owned and operated Terrebonne Market with her husband for 21 years. Jopie also worked in various banks in Central Oregon, including US Bank and Western Bank.
Jopie will be remembered for her ability to see the best in any situation, her love of family, animals, sun, coffee and chocolate.
Jopie’s family, who miss her dearly, include daughter, Alida Turner, Linda Hansen, Tonya Lunsford (husband Randy); grandchildren, Nicholas Olson (wife Leilani), Jennifer Lyman (husband Travis); Alexander Bruzda, Emily and Amanda Hansen and Zachary and Ryan Lunsford. She is survived by her mother Johanna Visser of Salt Lake City, Sister Lottie Taylor of Salt Lake City, and Brother Jaan van der Veen of Gig Harbor.
A celebration of her life will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, December 19th, 2015, at Community Presbyterian Church, 529 NW 19th, Redmond, OR 97756.
