Central Oregon students nominated for services academies

Five Central Oregon students have been nominated for acceptance to United States service academies, Rep. Greg Walden’s office announced Monday.
The service academies include the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado; the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y.
The students are: Benjamin Brockman, of Bend, nominated to the Air Force Academy; Owen Hucke, of Redmond, nominated to the Air Force Academy and the Naval Academy; Noah Nagle, of Bend, nominated to the Air Force Academy, the Naval Academy and the Military Academy; Hannah Wood, of Bend, nominated to the Military Academy; Jordan Rutz, of Prineville, nominated to the Military Academy.
Walden’s Service Academy Nomination Board, made up of active and retired military officers who interview candidates and make recommendations to Walden, selected the students based on their academic performance, extracurricular activities and character.
Admission will be determined by officials at each service academy this spring.
