Tribal Seeds, The Skints, The Steppas play Bend

San Diego reggae six-piece Tribal Seeds will bring its aptly named 2016 Winter Reggae Land tour to the Midtown Ballroom on Sunday. Because after all, winter is the season to get down to some fat reggae grooves (although that doesn’t seem to ever go out of season here).

And despite being a group of white boys from California, Tribal Seeds are the real deal. Formed by brothers Steven Rene Jacobo (lyrics, vocals, guitar) and Tony-Ray Jacobo (producer, keyboards, vocals) in 2005, the band is right at home with laid-back grooves, chunka-chunka guitar riffs and uplifting (and occasionally ganja-fueled) lyrics.

With four albums under its belt, the group has earned numerous accolades — in 2008, it was named Best World Music group at the San Diego Music Awards — and has shared the stage with MGMT, Slightly Stoopid and one-time Bendite Matisyahu, to name a few.

Their latest, 2014’s “Representing,” is the band’s first full-length since 2009, but not much has changed in the interim. If you’re looking for muscular reggae with a side of groovy rock ’n’ roll, here’s the show for you.

U.K. band The Skints and Hawaii’s The Steppas will open the show, making this a true melting pot of cultures and styles.
