‘KUNG FU PANDA 3’

Rating: PG for martial arts action and some mild rude humor.

What it’s about: Po returns for the third installment in the franchise, battling the evil chi-stealing spirit master Kai.

The kid-attractor factor: He’s a funny panda, he does kung fu and they’re likely already fans of the first two smash hit “Kung Fu Panda” movies.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Embrace your individuality and the different elements that make you who you are. Don’t forget the people who made you who you are. Protect the ones you love.

Violence: There’s kung fu! But it’s not particularly violent or scary; it’s more of a choreographed dance of martial arts. Some smaller kids might find Kai a bit too scary.

Language: The film is filled with jokes that work for parents and adults, but there’s no strong language.

Sexuality: Panda Mei Mei (Kate Hudson) is certainly very flirty.

Drugs: Only dumplings.

Parents advisory: A great kids movie that will please kids of all ages, and adults too. Maybe a little too much action for the smallest tots.

‘THE FINEST HOURS’

Rating: PG-13 for intense sequences of peril.

What it’s about: The true story of a daring 1952 boat rescue in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

The kid-attractor factor: This adventure tale is filled with heroism and hunks — Chris Pine is the star.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Some rules should be broken when it comes to saving lives. Always do your job and do the right thing when it comes to helping others.

Violence: Lots of roiling seas, tsunami sized waves and a little boat battling them. A huge oil tanker breaks in half and floods. There’s one death, which is seen indirectly and is not gory.

Language: This old-fashioned flick has no strong language.

Sexuality: A few kisses between the romantic leads, who are engaged.

Drugs: Aside from a single beer, none.

Parents advisory: The intense seafaring actions sequences are harrowing and could be scary for small kids. Other than that, it’s an innocent story of heroics.
