Los Angeles psychedelic stoner rock juggernaut Dead Meadow will make its Bend debut at Volcanic Theatre Pub on Monday. Heavy music fans, start canceling all other plans now.

Since forming in Washington, D.C., in 1998, Dead Meadow has earned attention in underground rock circles thanks to its bracing mix of ’60s psychedelia, ’70s sludge-rock riffs and sci-fi/horror-themed lyrics. Starting as a trio, the band released its earliest recordings on Fugazi bassist Joe Lally’s record label, Tolotta Records, before signing with Matador Records for 2003’s breakthrough album “Shivering King and Others” and expanding to a four-piece.

Mainstream notice hasn’t escaped the band, either: Lead guitarist/vocalist Jason Simon is the nephew of “The Wire” creator David Simon, and the band’s songs featured in a number of “Wire” episodes. An early tour with indie kingpins Guided By Voices and a collaboration with Wolfmother’s Andrew Stockdale helped further cement Dead Meadow’s place as one of modern rock’s most daring acts.

The band’s sixth album, 2013’s “Warble Womb,” managed to bring the band’s history full circle while simultaneously forging new ground. It’s the original trio’s first record together since 2001’s “Howls From the Hills” (the band became a trio again in 2007, and reunited with founding drummer Mark Laughlin in 2010). But of course “Warble Womb” sounds nothing like that early album, relying almost as heavily on acoustic guitars and swirling atmospherics as it does on Simon’s signature, Sabbath-esque riffery.

Seattle blues rocker Gabriel Mintz opens the show.
