Firefighters plan to light controlled fires Tuesday near Prineville.
Smoke will likely be seen along Millican Road and possibly at the Prineville Airport, due to a 500-acre burn along the west side of the road about 15 miles southwest of the city, according to the Bureau of Land Management. Crews intend to burn away debris from a juniper thinning and woodcutting project. The burning will likely take five days.
Juniper thinning and woodcutting also resulted in piles spread around 100 acres near the Prineville Lake Acres subdivision, about 12 miles south of Prineville, according to the agency. Burning there is also set to start Tuesday. No road closures are planned due to the burning.
Depending on the weather, firefighters may later light a 2,250-acre controlled burn about 15 miles south of Brothers, according to the BLM. The burn may put up smoke visible from U.S. Highway 20. And they may burn piles across 265 acres along Tumalo Reservoir Road, 3 miles southwest of Tumalo.
